Closing arguments today in Basil trial

Closing arguments are scheduled for Tuesday in the murder trial of Jeffrey Basil.

The former bar manager at Molly's Pub, Basil is charged in the death of William Sager Jr.. Sager died after suffering critical injuries during a fall down the stairs at the Pub last May.

A judge on Friday dismissed a defense request to have second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter charges dropped in the case.  The jury will be allowed to consider lesser charges of reckless manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and second-degree reckless endangerment as they begin deliberations this week. 

If convicted of the most serious charge, Basil could get life in prison.

Sager was an Air National Guardsman and engaged to be married.
