Dairy plant development headed to Batavia

GCDEC
Genesee Valley Agri-Business Park

Gov. Andrew Cuomo will be in Batavia on Tuesday to announce what he says will be details of a new partnership that will create hundreds of new jobs at an idle dairy facility.

His 12:30 p.m. announcement will be at the Genesee Valley Agri-Business Park. Media reports put the  "Project Dairy" price tag at $205 million.

A recent filing of documents from a meeting of the Genesee County Economic Development Center indicates that HP Hood, the Massachusetts-based dairy company, is planning to acquire the former Muller Quaker Dairy plant.

Hood is looking to create around 230 jobs at that facility. The company is purchasing the plant from the Dairy Farmers of America, a dairy cooperative which bought the plant after the previous venture closed in 2015.
