The chairman of Erie County's Democratic party is recommending his committee endorse incumbent Mayor Byron Brown for re-election.
Jeremy Zellner says based on conversations with the mayor, he is confident Brown will work in a unified manner with the party.
"Mayor Brown is the incumbent Democratic mayor of the City of Buffalo and we're standing behind him, I hope," Zellner told WBFO News. "The mayor has done some great things in our city and I'm excited to support him."
Relations between the mayor and previous party chairman Len Lenihan were strained, at times. Interviews will be conducted next Saturday and a committee endorsement vote will be held later this month.
Brown is running for a third term as mayor. He will be on the ballot with Republican newcomer Sergio Rodriguez this fall, and will likely face a primary challenge from former FBI special agent in charge Bernard Tolbert, who is scheduled to make an announcement Saturday.
