Mayor's race takes shape in Buffalo

Mayor Byron Brown has a hefty war chest as he prepares to launch his campaign for a third term. But that's not stopping a couple of challengers from entering this year's mayoral race. Sergio Rodriguez, a Medaille College administrator, has already declared his Republican candidacy for mayor and The Buffalo News reported last week that Bernard Tolbert, the former agent in charge of Buffalo's FBI office, is prepared to challenge Brown in a Democratic primary.

For now, Brown has not yet announced his candidacy.  He tells WBFO News his timetable for doing so won't be dictated by others.

"I am not concerned about what other people are doing," Brown said. "I am focused everyday on working for the people of Buffalo."

Brown did say an official announcement will be coming soon.

The mayor says he is prepared to run on a record that includes $1.5 billion in economic development projects, either underway or planned in Buffalo, and a residential tax cut of 15 percent.
