A Friday night fire in Genesee County tuned fatal when two children didn't make it out of a Batavia home.

Micah and Michael Gard, a set of two-year-old twin boys died of smoke inhalation on the first floor rear bedroom in a multi-family home on State Street Road. Fire Crews responded to the blaze that began on the first floor around 10 p.m. The mother of the children was not home when the fire began. It is believed the children were left alone in the first floor residence. The upstairs apartment was unoccupied at the time.

Fire investigators are still looking into the cause of the incident.
