BPS Superintendent evaluation positive, contract extended

Buffalo Public Schools

Buffalo Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Kriner Cash was able to bring together the entire Board of Education at last night's meeting. The board unanimously approved his first-year evaluation and a contract extension. Cash received a grade of 3.43 out of 4.0 for his first year on the job. With that good report card, the board unanimously extended Cash's contract to take him into August of 2020. The contract includes an annual 2.5 percent cost of living raise and 18 months pay should he be terminated without cause before then.

Several board members expressed their confidence in Cash and his ability and willingness to carry out the District's New Education Bargain with Students and Parents.  Much of that work has begun and will be in place for the 2016-17 school year, including Rigorous Early Elementary Education with reduced class sizes, five new Innovative High Schools and 13 Community Schools.

“There are a lot of challenges here in the Buffalo Public Schools, but there is more opportunity than challenge,” Cash said.  “That’s what will keep me motivated and energized to get us where we want to be – which is a world-class, top-flight, public school system, serving all of our children and families well – second to none in the country.”

Three new board members will be sworn on Friday. Cash praised the outgoing board members as "passionate" and "dedicated" and said they will be missed.  He also had words for the new board.

“With three new board members coming on, I am confident that the six veteran board members will help induct and orient the new members into the culture of excellence that we are shaping together as a team.”
