Parents seek federal help to fix Buffalo Schools

Chris Caya WBFO News

After Buffalo's Board of Education largely ignored an expert's recommendations on correcting the District's Civil Rights violations - some parents are seeking federal help. The President of the District Parent Coordinating Council, Sam Radford says, racism in the Buffalo Schools is getting worse and there needs to be a solution that works for the community.

"We're asking for the Office of Civil Rights to come in and to take a closer look at the issues of suspension. Take a closer look of where racism is not being confronted in our school system. We're also asking for the Department of Justice to come in and have an enforcement action now. To have Dr. Orfield's recommendations implemented completely."

The District's Chief of Intergovernmental Affairs Will Keresztes says parents are raising some very serious concerns. Keresztes says Superintendent Kriner Cash expects the District will be responsive and solve the problems.
