Judge Astacio sentenced to maximum for DWI

WXXI News

Rochester City Court Judge Leticia Astacio has been sentenced to jail as a result of fallout from her earlier drunk driving conviction.

Astacio received the maximum sentence - 60 days in prison and three years probation - at a hearing Thursday.

Astacio was charged with DWI in February of 2016 and convicted in August. Last month she was found guilty of violating the conditions of her sentence and sent to jail.

Astacio was elected to a 10-year term and continues to receive her salary. It would be up to the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct to decide whether her actions warrant removal from office.

According toSpectrum News, Astacio spoke in the courtroom Thursday, telling the judge she had attended programs, went to therapy and tried to volunteer.

According to theD&C, Judge Stephen Aronson criticized Astacio for not showing remorse for her actions.
