Extra security expected at Starpoint Schools as manhunt continues

Niagara County Sheriff's Office

Starpoint Central Schools in Pendleton are expected to resume normal operations Thursday - however, extra security will be in place - after a lockout went into effect Wednesday afternoon. No one was admitted or allowed to leave school buildings for a short time because of a police standoff about two miles away.

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office reported that 44-year-old Christopher Wright of Oakwood Drive in Pendleton was despondent and threatening to harm himself at that address. Wright is the subject of a separate criminal investigation.

Patrols were dispatched to the area. An aerial and ground search commenced shortly after by several law enforcement units, several K9 units and a helicopter following unconfirmed reports that the subject may be on foot in the area.

The search is continuing. The Sheriff says Wright is a white male, 5'8", 210lbs, with blond hair and blue eyes.
