Bisons name new manager

The Buffalo Bisons have announced a new manager for the 2014 season. Their parent club, the Toronto Blue Jays, have named Gary Allenson, a veteran minor league manager and former major league catcher to the post. Allenson, 58, will take over from former manager Marty Brown, who left the organization last December.

Allenson, a former MLB catcher who spent time playeing for the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays, has managed eight of his 19 years in the International League. Last year, he led Toronto's AA franchise in New Hampshire.

The manager has six years of Major League coaching experience with the Red Sox and Milwaukee Brewers. He has a career managerial record of 1,143-1,266.

The Bisons will also welcome two new coaches. Randy Saint Claire will serve as pitching coach and Richie Hebner as hitting coach. Both are former major leaguers with extensive experience.

Athletic trainer VOON CHONG and strength and conditioning coach ARMANDO GUTTIERREZ will both return for their second seasons with the team.

The Herd is entering its second season as the Blue Jays' AAA affiliate.
