UB gears up for Saturday's bowl game in Boise

The University at Buffalo community is gearing up for this Saturday's appearance of the UB Bulls in a college football bowl game.  UB is using the "Famous Idaho Potato Bowl" to introduce the university to a national audience.http://youtu.be/9xVDbK4JMdkThe Bulls are taking on San Diego State.  UB President Satish Tripathi says this isn't a mere football game.  He says the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl provides UB with a national stage to showcase its academic, research and athletic excellence.

While a bowl invitation is not a "silver bullet," the Council for Advancement and Support of Education says there is a "Cinderella Effect" from the enhanced visibility.

UB's Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations Nancy Wells says it's a great way to connect with alumni.

"There are about 5,400 UB alums in the eight states of the Mountain West.  We're hoping for a good turnout.  We have 2,000 tickets for alumni," Wells said.  "We're working it."

Wells says says UB will also be hosting viewing parties in Buffalo, New York City, Los Angeles and Washington.

This mark's UB's second-ever post-season bowl appearance.  The game will be televised live by ESPN and ESPN Radio.

Athletics Director Danny White says it's a great way to close out a record-breaking season for the football Bulls.
