The Niagara District's David Rivera has been elected the new majority leader of the Buffalo Common Council.
In council chambers after the unanimous vote, Rivera said he is honored to be in the position he's in.
"I think that we've only touched the tip of the iceberg of all the good things that are going to happen in Buffalo," Rivera said.
"People say, 'Why do you want to this?' This is a good time to be in government when we're seeing all the good things that are happening in the city of Buffalo in our respective districts. You just want to continue the momentum that we have."
Rivera replaces the Masten District's Demone Smith who was recently tapped by Mayor Byron Brown to lead the Buffalo Employment and Training Center.
