McCarthy sifts through complex 60th Senate race

Some local labor groups are supporting Senator Mark Grisanti as he continues to campaign on the Independence Party line in the battle to retain his seat in the 60th District. Buffalo News Political Reporter Bob McCarthy breaks down the challenges facing Grisanti's reelection bid in his weekly conversation on WBFO's Morning Edition.

Grisanti is battling Republican Kevin Stocker and Democrat Mark Panepinto in a race that McCarthy says is being monitored on a statewide level. The control of the Senate could be determined in the 60th District, though McCarthy wonders if Governor Cuomo's political coattails are strong enough to carry Democrats to victory in some other key races.

Governor Cuomo, of course, is working for reelection against Republican Rob Astorino, who received the support of Texas Governor Rick Perry during a recent fundraiser in Buffalo. Perry pressed the need for New York to legalize "fracking" to boost the state's economy. McCarthy says the issue is part of a larger economic argument in New York's gubernatorial race.
