Veteran broadcast journalist Stefan Mychajliw is running for Erie County Comptroller.
Mychajliw has been endorsed by the Republican, Conservative and Independence Parties. He has had a varied career.
After working in TV news, Mychajliw served as a spokesman for the Buffalo School District. More recently, he ran his own public relations agency and served as co-host of a noon-time debate show on Channel 2.
Mychajliw said all that experience makes him well qualified to run for county comptroller.
"It's a perfect skill set. I'm a business owner. I'm responsible for budgets and payroll," Mychajliw said. " I have a strong track record of holding politicians accountable. I have fought for the taxpayers."
Mychajliw is immediately leaving his Channel 2 hosting duties because of equal time rules.
On Thursday, the Erie County Democratic committee endorsed David Shenk for county comptroller. Shenk was appointed interim comptroller following the election of Mark Poloncarz as county executive.
Local businessman George Hasiotis is said to be considering a primary challenge of Shenk.
