Wendy Majtyka-Hartman (right) accepts her new position as Buffalo Fire Department Division Chief Tuesday to the applause of city and fire officials.

The City of Buffalo Fire Department now has its first-ever female Division Chief, Wendy Majtyka-Hartman.

She commanded several Technical Rescue Teams, including MCI, Hazmat, Collapse, Extrication, Confined Space, Water and Ice Rescue and Trench.

A Buffalo native, Wendy Majtyka-Hartman attended Waterfront Elementary School and Mount Mercy Academy, earned a bachelor’s degree in Earth Science from SUNY Buffalo State and completed master’s-level courses in Elementary Education.
