$3M in damage reported in overnight Grand Hotel fire

An overnight fire at downtown Buffalo's Grand Hotel is estimated to have caused $3 million in damage.

Buffalo Fire Buff NY reported an original call came in shortly after midnight for smoke coming from the parking garage, located at 120 Church St. Third Battalion Chief Jim Hynes reported power out in the hotel and Division Chief Daniel Bossi requested extra engines to the scene.

About 1:30 a.m., Rescue 1 reported it had located the fire in a second-floor ballroom, which was under construction. The fire was declared under control before 3 a.m., but fire crews remained on the scene for several more hours. The cause is under investigation.

According to the Buffalo News, 40-50 guests were evacuated from the hotel for about an hour before it was determined they could safely return to their rooms. One firefighter was injured in a fall, but remained on duty.

Formerly known at the Adam's Mark Hotel, the facility is reportedly set to change its name on Dec. 31 to the Ramada by Wyndham Buffalo Downtown.

Monday - Friday, 6 a.m. - 10 a.m.
