The river off Broderick Park has been the site of previous search and rescues, like this one in 2017.

Buffalo Police divers, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Erie County Sheriff's Office are continuing their search for two people seen in the Niagara River near Broderick Park.

The search began after a vehicle drove into the water at around 7 a.m. Tuesday. City surveillance cameras recorded a vehicle driving through a railing and into the water from a parking lot near the southern end of the park.

Police dispatchers received a 911 call for a person yelling for help from the river. A subsequent call to police was about a second person being carried downstream in the river.

The search is focusing on the two people reported in the water and not on the vehicle, which has not yet been spotted. The identities of the potential victims are unknown, as are any reasons why the vehicle went into the river.
