Buffalo firefighter injured when ceiling collapses on her

An overnight fire in Buffalo's Parkside neighborhood sent a firefighter to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.

Fire crews were called to a large building at 387 Crescent Ave. near Russell Street just after 2:30 a,m. The structure contained eight apartment units, which were vacant due to renovations.

The injured and unidentified firefighter was hurt after a ceiling, estimated at weighing about 100 lbs., collapsed on her head. She was taken to the hospital for possible spine and neck injuries.

Other firefighters had difficulties at the fire due to heat and humidity.

Damage is estimated at $100,000. The cause is under investigation.
