firebuffny.com

A two-alarm morning fire proved fatal to two residents in Buffalo's University District.

The first alarm was sounded at 6:45 a.m. at 488 Minnesota Avenue.

One victim is a 31-year-old male. He was declared dead at the scene.

Also deceased is a 65-year-old female. She was initially rescued by firefighters and transported by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center, but was declared dead at the hospital.

Two other individuals in the house survived by jumping out of an upstairs window. They are a 54-year-old female and her 13-year-old daughter. They were transported to ECMC, where they are being treated for smoke inhalation and other injuries.

Fire officials said the 54-year old mother, 31-year old son and 13-year-old daughter were upstairs at the time of the fire. The 65-year-old female cousin was in a first-floor bedroom.

Officials said damage is estimated at $150,000 and the cause of the fire is under investigation. They said exposure damage occurred at a next-door residence, causing another $100,000 in damage there.
