Review of UB Greek life complete; report and recommendations expected this week

A review of Greek Life at the University at Buffalo, prompted by suspected hazing and the death of a student, has been completed and recommendations are expected by the end of the week.

Official Greek life activities at the university were suspended in April, following an incident of suspected hazing at the Sigma Pi fraternity house in Buffalo’s University Heights neighborhood. That incident led to the hospitalization of 18-year-old undergraduate student Sebastian Serafin-Bazan, who died less than a week later.

The university has a zero tolerance policy for hazing – something Vice President of Student Life Scott Weber has said is part of the education given to students at the school’s orientation. Weber requested the report be completed prior to the 2019 fall semester.

New students begin moving in this Thursday.
