The University at Buffalo has begun the process of revoking an honorary degree given to disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein.
UB, in a statement issued Wednesday morning, says it is "well aware" of the allegations involving Weinstein, allegations that includes decades of sexual harassment and rape.
Weinstein is a former UB student who started his career in Buffalo. He was given an honorary doctorate of humane letters in 2000.
On Wednesday afternoon, a UB spokesman released an additional statement on the question of whether Weinstein ever made financial contributions to the university.
"Harvey Weinstein personally never made a gift to the university. In 2004 and 2005, Disney, on behalf of Miramax, gave a total of $22,750 to support a media study scholarship at the university. The scholarships were awarded to students in 2005, expending all of the funding from the gift," the statement reads.
The revocation request now goes to the SUNY Board of Trustees, which will make the final determination.
