Officials in Niagara County are extending the State of Emergency along the Lake Ontario shoreline. The original warning was set to expire today. Water levels on the lake are continuing to rise, creating stretches of unstable shoreline, flooding problems and the danger of submerged hazards. The State of Emergency will run for an additional 30 days.
The Coast Guard is asking that anyone using barrels or drums to weigh down piers and docks to mark those objects with a large red "X."
Should they break loose, this will tell authorities that they do not contain hazardous materials.
