Road conditions improve after icy start

Road conditions have improved after a treacherous start to the morning. Freezing rain and falling temperatures overnight iced up area roadways.

Road crews have treated most expressways and local roads. But untreated surfaces, especially parking lots and sidewalks, could still be slippery, so caution is advised. For a time, Metro Bus was running behind schedule. And a couple of local roads -- French Road in Amherst and California Road in Orchard Park -- were closed for a time.

Fans attending today's Bills-Browns game at New Era Field are encouraged to bundle up as wind chills drop into the single digits by game's end.

While the snow is over for now, Meteorologist Steve Welch said the airport weather station is now reporting above-average snowfall for the current season.

"We have 25.8 inches of snow for the season. Normally at this point of the season, we have 22.1. So, we are a few inches above normal," Welch said.

This is a reversal from the earlier portion of this winter season where snowfall totals in Buffalo were below average in November and early December.
