A rash of attacks in the University Heights area has residents on edge. The latest came Thursday night when a female UB student was stabbed eight times in a robbery attempt. The victim was attacked on the porch of her home. She is listed in fair condition at ECMC, and none of her injuries are considered to be life threatening. Mayor Byron Brown said that efforts are being made to apprehend the attacker and to keep the neighborhood safe.

"Buffalo Police told me that they immediately increased police patrol and presence in that area of the City of Buffalo, and I'm very pleased to hear that police are also following up on a lead. They do have a lead in this attack."

The lead is a distinctive camouflage patterned jacket with bright green piping worn by the attacker, who is described as a slight, black male. It is thought that the same person might have been involved in other incidents in the area.

University Police can be contacted at 716 645-2222.
