Deadly road in Wheatfield could be reviewed by DOT

In an effort to prevent future tragedies, New York Sen. Robert Ortt is calling for a review of Shawnee Road in Wheatfield. Last Saturday, two 18-year-olds were struck and killed as they were leaving a house party."The fact that there is parking on both sides of the road, I think in the wrong situation, the wrong part of that road, can create a hazard for pedestrians or for people just going to their cars," Ortt said.

The senator sent a formal request on Thursday to the head of New York's Department of Transportation.

According to Niagara County Sheriff James Votour, investigators are awaiting results of a toxicology test of the driver, 20-year-old Carly Marrs of North Tonawanda.
