Leadership roles set in Erie County Legislature

Mike Desmond/wbfo news

Erie County Legislature Democrats have a new leader, as members chose Amherst member Thomas Loughran as minority leader. Betty Jean Grant says she just couldn't get the votes for another year as party leader.

"In the best interest of unity and solidarity, when I didn't have that third vote, it was only a sane and a wise thing to do was step aside," Grant said.

While there was a change in leadership in the legislative minority, Republicans stood behind their current structure.

Chairman John Mills was unanimously given another term and Majority Leader Joseph Lorigo kept his post.

While there are no major issues across the aisle, Majority Caucus members see themselves as a counter-balance to re-elected County Executive Mark Poloncarz.
