The long process to start building on the old Millard Fillmore Hospital site on Gates Circle heated up at Monday's Planning Board meeting. Many voiced their opposition to the proposed Canterbury Woods senior complex.
Many object to the look of the building, with Episcopal Church Home agreeing to new brick and exterior metal panel colors.
"This is the gateway to the city. We only get one time to do this right and if there are still people who have concern." said Council President Darius Pridgen.
"I'm not saying that we have to keep meeting until everybody is on board. But, I'm very uncomfortable with saying that there was a public engagement meeting, when the council member wasn't there."
That meeting on Sunday was called on two-day's notice and for a time in the late stages of the Bills game and drew perhaps a dozen people.
Lawyer Marc Romanowski says there have been eight public meetings about the project.
Canterbury Woods CEO Rob Wallace says his project is the first on the Gates Circle site and that is making it a target.
