John R. Oishei Children's Hospital is 'topped out'

Chris Caya/WBFO News

A "topping out" ceremony for the new John R. Oishei Children's Hospital took place Monday

Allegra Jaros, the President of Women & Children's Hospital, says in the long run, the new facility will improve patient care. Jaros says there has already been an increase in the recruitment of physicians and nurses from across the country who see what is happening on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus and want to be a part of it.

"In the last two years alone, we've recruited somewhere between 40 to 50 different pediatric and maternal specialists. It's great for our community," Jaros said.

The 12-story Children's Hospital at Ellicott and High Streets downtown will be connected to the new Conventus Medical building, the new University at Buffalo Medical School, Buffalo General Hospital, and the Gates Vascular Institute.

The $267 million hospital is set to open in November 2017.
