FootGolf makes for new pastime in Delaware Park

When organizers debuted Delaware Park’s FootGolf course this spring, they had small expectations for its popularity. With fall underway, those expectations have been long over shot and patrons are still coming out to play.

Interim Executive Director of the Buffalo Olmstead Parks Conservancy Stephanie Crockatt said 1500 rounds was the estimate for use of the FootGolf course. The actual number has now exceeded 2900, attracting a diversified mix of players.

“It was a wonderful experience for millennials and families and school groups,” said Crockatt.

Even bachelor parties have taken to the 18-hole course.

Delaware Park was retooled for FootGolf, although the game basically follows golf rules. The major difference is that instead of using a club and a golf ball, players use their feet and a soccer ball.

Crockatt said the inaugural season of FootGolf will continue until snow starts to fall in Buffalo. She is hopeful that will be at least a few more weeks.

Information on the course is available on the Buffalo Olmstead Parks Conservancy website.
