Sunday was a truly nice summer day, maybe a little hot. The blue sky was dappled with some clouds. On some South Buffalo streets, the flowers were colorful, the trees were filled with leaves and everyone was trying to forget the multiple feet of snow that buried those same streets last November.
Streets like Unger were just buried by the storm, requiring high-lifts and dump trucks to get the snow out of there and moved to Central Terminal where some is still left over. Now, there are trees, window boxes, hanging pots and lots and lots of flowers. From the Stevenson Street bridge, Caz Creek just meandered along compared to massive ice dams in the storm.
Harry Borowiak says, "It was a tough winter, very, very cold. I have spent all my life in winter and I don't remember one being quite that cold for that extended period of time. Aside from the storm, it was very cold. Now, it's very hot. So, I don't know. Maybe the weather's changing like they say but I don't believe it."
Others say there was less damage than they were worried about once the snow melted and washed away. It turned into the kind of summer to make plants grow and obscure thoughts of last November.
