This week, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown will issue a request for proposals for the redevelopment of 201 Ellicott Street, located between Clinton and East Eagle Streets.
Brown plans to use the same model which turned the Webster Block into the HarborCenter in less than two years.
"Our goal is to get a major supermarket in downtown Buffalo, to get housing as part of that development, preferably condominiums," says Brown. "We would also certainly like to see a parking ramp constructed that would address the growing downtown residential population as well as the additional job holders that are downtown as well."
Mayor Brown says his office has already had significant interest. He would not identify any supermarket chains that may have interest in the parcel, but added that any such chain interested in moving downtown would have to work in cooperation with the winning bidder.
