Erie County legislators have unanimously approved an expanded budget for repairing the county's tattered roads and bridges, badly dented by a winter which never seemed to end.
The package approved Thursday calls for almost $30 million in repairs. That's up $8 million from earlier plans. The package is a mix of deep into the ground re-pavings and $4 million for pavement overlays.
"Definitely in District 6, the roads are worse than we have seen in a long time, but that's the case across all of Erie County," said Legislator Ed Rath, who represents District 6.
"So, when we had this unanimous vote in support today, I think everyone addresses the fact that, okay, this road work needs to get done and we need to prioritize our roads and we have done so with additional money, I might add."
Among the large projects are Amsdell Road in Hamburg, Goodrich Road in Clarence, Brighton Road in Tonawanda and at least the start for replacement of the Girdle Road Bridge in Elma.
