The Erie County Sheriff's Office Crash Investigation Unit and detectives are investigating what appears to be a hit and run crash in the Town of Newstead.
The Sheriff's dispatch received a call from a passing motorist just after midnight about a man in the road on Indian Falls Road early Monday morning.
When deputies arrived at the scene, the victim was deceased.
The victim has been identified as Francis A. Meldrum, Jr., 38, of Corfu.
Indian Falls Road was closed for a time as the Crash Investigation Unit and detectives investigated the incident.
The incident is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Stoppers tip line at 716.861.6767. There is a $1,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest in connection with the incident.
