Shortly after the authenticity of a video showing the beheading of journalist Steven Sotloff was confirmed,Congressman Brian Higgins joined the growing call for an international response.
Higgins, a member of the Homeland Security Committee, says the response to ISIS should be proportional to the threat the group poses. But he says it should not just be up to the United States.
"It's about time that the European community and the Middle Eastern leaders stand up and lead. And we can provide very very important support, like air strikes, but no boots on the ground," Higgins said Wednesday.
The South Buffalo Democrat says there are enough soldiers already in place.
"We spent 10 years building up an Iraqi army of 250,000. Certainly we can find competent troops well equipped to take out a militia called the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria of 12,000."
Higgins says what's required now is an international coordination to quickly eradicate ISIS.
