New charges possible following Sager's death

Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita says he'll reconvene a grand jury to consider more charges against  bar manager, Jeffrey Basil, following the death of Air National Guardsman William Sager.

Sedita says that he'll recall the same grand jury that indicted Molly's Pub manager Jeffrey Basil earlier this year on attempted murder and other charges.

"The grand jury who heard the case originally and returned the indictment will be reconvened and additional evidence will be presented to that grand jury. The grand jury will decide whether additional charges, including homicide charges are appropriate given the new and additional evidence, which is the death of Mr. Sager," said Sedita.

Basil is accused of pushing  the 28-year-old Sager inside Molly's Pub in May. Police say the shove sent Sager down a flight of stairs inside the Buffalo bar.  Sager had been hospitalized with severe brain trauma since then and died on Thursday.

He was a crew chief with the 107th Airlift Wing based in Niagara Falls. Sedita says he expects grand jury to be reconvened in 2-3 weeks to consider upgraded charges.
