New group among many proposing stadium on Buffalo waterfront

Pope Law Firm PLLC

A new group unveiled plans to develop an amateur and professional sports complex on Buffalo’s Outer Harbor Monday. As part of the project, the group known as Buffalo Sportz Corridor suggests building a new stadium for the Buffalo Bills.

The concept for the complex, being called Olympia Sports Park, includes space for activities such as fishing, swimming and boating, as well as the capacity for sports such as hockey, baseball, volleyball and golf.

The group’s plans are one of many being proposed for the Outer Harbor. Rep. Brian Higgins says he has yet to review the proposal, but he says all plans will be considered and the best one will be implemented.

“I don’t know that there’s the land necessary down there or the infrastructure to support something like that, but just in terms of land use, it’s not the highest and best use. We should have a new stadium somewhere in downtown Buffalo, I don’t know if it belongs on Buffalo’s waterfront,” said Higgins.

Higgins says he thinks it’s a good thing that groups are coming forward with ideas for Buffalo’s waterfront and for the Buffalo Bills. He says sooner, rather than later, is the best time to be discussing options for the team.
