Former Kenmore East student found dead in Army barracks

A former student at Kenmore East High School was found dead Sunday morning near his Army barracks at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas.

Specialist Ian Patrick Morgan, 28, attended Kenmore East through 2004. Authorities say Morgan's body was found at the bottom of a stairwell. He reportedly suffered from blunt force trauma to the head. An investigation is ongoing and homicide has not been ruled out.

Morgan was assigned to the 56th Signal Brigade, 7th Signal Command and 21st Signal Brigade. He was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center, where he died.

“The community here at Fort Sam Houston is saddened by the death of Specialist Morgan,” said Lt. Gen. Perry L. Wiggins. “We've lost a member of our Army. On behalf of all the men and women who serve here, our thoughts, prayers and heartfelt condolences are with his family at this time.”

The Ken-Ton school district has issued a statement, expressing its sympathies to Morgan's family and gratitude for his service. Former teachers say he was polite, respectful, and well-liked.
