Marinelli leaving Legislature for state job

erie.gov

Governor Andrew Cuomo has appointed Lynn Marinelli, a longtime Erie County legislator, to a post with Empire State Development. Marinelli will serve as Director of Intergovernmental Relations for Western New York. She is resigning her Democratic seat on the county legislature, where she has served for 17 years.

Cuomo, in a statement, says Marinelli will bring much experience to the job.

“Ms. Marinelli has served the people of Erie County for more than a decade, and now she will bring her wealth of firsthand experience and knowledge of the community to her new role. I commend her dedication to public service and am confident she will help strengthen our efforts to build on the exciting investments and developments that are moving Western New York forward every day,” Cuomo said.

Marinelli says it has been an "honor and privilege" to represent her North Buffalo and Town of Tonawanda district since 1997 and says she looks forward to helping continue the region's recent momentum.

"While I've truly loved and it's been such a privilege to have been representing the 3rd District, I'm viewing this as I get a broader base of constituency and a new role in service to Governor Cuomo," Marinelli told WBFO News.

Marinelli's replacement on the Legislature will be chosen by the Erie County Democratic Committee.
