Library system seeks input at 25 focus group sessions

The Buffalo and Erie County Public Libraries holds the first of 25 focus groups Tuesday to learn more about what the community wants from its library system.
Libraries have changed greatly in the 21st century.  They once were just a repository for books and magazines.  But now they're a place to find movies on DVD or computer terminals to connect to the Internet.  Still, Library Director Mary Jean Jakubowski acknowledges there might be other needs that are not being met.

"We're hoping to hear input on things that we might not be aware of," Jakubowski said.  "They want to use the meeting rooms or want different library hours."

Jakubowski said the focus groups will be held at libraries all across Erie County.

"We recognize that every community is different," Jakubowski said.  "That's why we have 25 of our focus groups set up because we do know every community has its own wants and needs from its public library."

The first of the forums will be held Tuesday at the West Seneca and Orchard Park libraries.  People interested in attending are asked to RVSP with their respective libraries.  Click herefor a complete listing of all 25 focus groups.
