Catholic Charities of Buffalo has launched its 90th annual Appeal campaign. Buffalo Bishop Richard Malone says the goal of $10.8 million is slightly larger than last year because he says the need in Western New York "grows greater all the time."
Because of the economy, Malone says Catholic Charities is concerned every year about meeting its goal.
"But the people come through. I think people are very aware of the tremendous work that Catholic Charities does in Western new York," Malone said. "We'll make it. We'll need everybody's support, but we'll do it."
This year's goal is $100,000 higher than last year's $10.7 million campaign, which was achieved. The theme of Appeal 2014 is "Heart at work."
As part of this year's campaign, a 1998 Harley Davidson motorcycle that was donated to Catholic Charities will be auctioned off on eBay. Proceeds will benefit the Appeal.
