The marquees of its many movie houses once lit the nighttime sky in downtown Buffalo. Now, the downtown scene may soon be without any movie theaters.
According to the Buffalo News, the digital transition of the movie industry is threatening to shut the doors the Market Arcade Film and Arts Center, downtown's only remaining movie screens.
The publicly-financed entity reportedly would require $420,000 to upgrade its projectors to meet new industry standards.
With a boost from federal funding, the theaters opened in 1987 and have since been operated by a series of companies.
Dipson Theatres currently operates the facility.
