The American Automobile Association is projecting that just over 43 million Americans will be traveling over the Thanksgiving holiday, a drop of nearly a million travelers from last year.Tony Spada, the President and CEO of AAA of Western and Central New York, explains that "While the economy continues to improve, the sluggish pace of the recovery is creating uncertainty in the minds of some consumers, and therefore, AAA is projecting a slight decline in the number of Thanksgiving travelers this year."

This slip is just one part of a pattern of declines. The AAA projects that automobile travel, air travel and median spending over the holiday will all be down from last year. The only increase will be in the average distance traveled by Americans.

Gas prices are also down, sitting at their lowest point over the holidays since 2010.
