Assertions by state lawmakers to go without pay during the 16 day partial government shutdown in October appear to have been empty promises. Democratic Senator Charles Schumer along with Republican Representatives Chris Collins and Tom Reed all made various pledges to forego pay during that period. However, established pay dates fell before and then after the shutdown, meaning the pay cycle for the politicians was uninterrupted and all received full pay.
Collins has pledged to donate a portion of his pay to the Boy Scouts.
