Buffalo is set to add another Frank Lloyd Wright building to its already impressive inventory. A gas station that Wright conceived in 1927, but which was never built, will now be erected at the Pierce Arrow Museum downtown. Wright designed the filling station for the Tydol Oil Company, but the construction costs of his innovative structure exceeded what that company and others were willing to spend.
The building includes a living room for waiting patrons with fireplaces to comfort both visitors and station attendants.
Wright intended the station to be the first to be open for 24 hours a day.
