Following years of requests from elected officials and interest groups, it appears the NFTA is ready to relinquish control of key portions of Buffalo's waterfront.
According to the Buffalo News, the transit authority will transfer Gallagher Beach and the Small Boat Harbor to the state's Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
For decades, critics assailed the NFTA for its poor development efforts along the waterfront property. Calls for the transit authority to relinquish its control of the property have grown louder in recent months.
Control of another 120 acres of Outer Harbor property is expected to be transferred to the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation.
Approval from the City of Buffalo would be needed.
Governor Cuomo is expected in Buffalo Thursday to make the announcement.
