Dr. James Corasanti is scheduled to be released from the county jail in Alden next week after 9 months behind bars. Among other penalties, Corasanti was sentenced to one year in jail on a misdemeanor DWI charge in the 2011 hit-and-run death of skateboarder Alix Rice. A jury was unable to convict him on more serious charges, and a serious backlash from the community followed.
New legislation, called Alix's Law, is now on the New York State books, which closes a previously existing loophole regarding hit-and-run accidents.
