WBFO/AM 970 News

The New York State Park Police water rescue team sprang into action on Friday.

The risky rescue saved the life of a 7-month-old puppy that became stranded, somewhat mysteriously, on Little Brother Island in the Niagara River near the Horseshoe Falls. The pooch became spooked during the fireworks display on July 4th and has been missing ever since. Authorities were surprised to find the dog in good shape after so much time.

The 2 1/2 hour rescue reunited the pet with its family. How the dog reached the island remains in question.
