A wrong-way crash on the southbound I-190 on Grand Island killed three people overnight.

State Police say an SUV driven by 87-year old Richard Hildebrandt of Kenmore was going the wrong way on the Niagara Thruway when it slammed head-on into another vehicle.  It happened near the Whitehaven Road exit just before 1 o'clock this morning.

Three passengers in the other vehicle were killed: 20-year-old Shofiul Alom and a 21-year-olds Nazim Khan and Rezwan Chowdhury.

Hildebrandt and the driver of the other vehicle, 22-year-old Burhanur Ralman were taken to ECMC with traumatic injuries.  They are listed in critical condition. The four men in the car are from Hamtramck, Michigan, near Detroit.

The crash closed the section of the southbound I-190 for several hours. It  opened just before 7 a.m.
