Neighborhood Health Center solidifies its West Side presence

Neighborhood Health Center of WNY

After nearly a decade at 300 Niagara St., Neighborhood Health Center of WNY is buying the building from Kaleida Health. Health officials said the purchase will not only ensure, but help grow primary care in the high-need area of Buffalo’s Lower West Side.

Kaleida Health acquired the former Columbus Hospital on Niagara Street in 1998. In 2011, Neighborhood Health Center opened its third location there, a Federally Qualified Health Center that now offers Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, Dentistry, Pharmacy Services, Podiatry, Behavioral Health and Nutritional Care, regardless of ability to pay.

Health Center CEO Joanne Haefner said the purchase comes at a critical point in the public health emergency.

“As the ongoing negative effects of COVID-19 continue to exacerbate social and medical inequities for many in our communities, we must remain open to provide continued necessary care," Haefner said in a statement. "Furthermore, we believe this opportunity extends our desires to have a more permanent public health presence in the community.”

Neighborhood Health Center has been the region’s leading primary care safety-net provider for more than 30 years and cares for more than 25,000 Western New Yorkers.
