Following a vigorous review, the National Cancer Institute has renewed Roswell Park's Comprehensive Cancer Center Grant. The designation secures more than $19 million in federal funding for Roswell for another five years. Roswell Park President and CEO Dr. Donald Trump says the designation provides critical support for RPCI's research program.
"It's a national stamp of recognition for the excellence that is here. It confirms for patients, other scientists, and institutions across the country the great work that is done at Roswell Park," Trump said Tuesday.
In downtown Buffalo for the announcement, Governor Andrew Cuomo said Roswell is the "rock" upon which the new Buffalo is being built.
"The rock is Roswell. The anchor is Roswell. You started it. You're birthing it. You are generating the energy that gave birth to the vision," Cuomo told the assembled crowd.
Roswell Park has been an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center since 1974. It is the NCI's highest ranking, making Roswell among the top cancer centers in the world.
